Hello Parents and Students,
I am glad to announce that we have successfully finished week one of the 2025 DVHS Robotics Summer Camp! We've had an amazing time working with all the engineering minds in this camp and helping students grow. This blog is the first of our weekly updates, and we will continue to send out weekly updates every Friday.
Over the past 3 sessions, students learned lots of robotics concepts, including:
Basic build quality
The engineering design process, and how to break down problems
Gear Ratios, and the physics behind them
How robots can be used in everyday life
Also, we did lots of hands-on robotics, including:
Building a clawbot
Testing and troubleshooting errors
Building Sumo Bots, part of our first mini challenge
In this challenge, mentors worked with students to create a robot that would compete against other teams. The goal is to push opposing robots out of a 4 foot by 4 foot square. Using their own creativity and engineering skills, students worked to build a robot from scratch, and code it to function properly.

Some things to take note of:
We will distribute the student summer camp t-shirts near the start of week three!
Throughout the summer camp, we are enforcing the safety contract and our sign-out policy to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and mentors. The sign-out policy requires parents who opted in to physically sign their child out from the DVHS Commons at 12:00 pm every session. If you have opted in, your child's name will be highlighted in red in this spreadsheet. If you would like to change this preference or add names to the approved adults for sign-out list, please email us at contact@dvhsrobotics.com.
As a reminder, we cannot offer partial or full amount refunds for any reason (i.e. COVID-related absences, pre-booked vacation absences, etc.). This policy, which prohibited refunds after 3/21/25, was stated on the DVHS webstore and is written under FAQ #6 on the summer camp page. Our club has implemented this policy because our club funds are managed by the school, which unfortunately limits our control over these issues.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at mooncyli@dvhsrobotics.com or to jasperding@dvhsrobotics.com. Our club and mentors are always looking for ways to improve our summer camp - if you have any suggestions, we would be glad to hear them!
Best Regards,
Jasper Ding (Activities Coordinator / SC Supervisor)
