Our mission is to promote interest and excel in STEM through educational and competitive robotics.

The History of our Club

The DVHS Robotics Club was founded in 2007 and has since been devoted to the pursuit of robotics and other STEM related areas. At our club's birth, we were a competitive FRC Robotics Team; however, due to the high cost of maintaining a program based around FRC, we decided to switch to VEX.

Ever since then, our club has been expanding to include more teams and members. We have participated in numerous competitions, gradually learning more about the VEX platform. Our club is now one of the largest on campus and supports over 100 members of all grade and experience levels.

In 2013, our club grew to the point where teams were inundated with members, not all of which were ready to be on a competitive team right away. We decided to break down the robotics experience into two steps for members: rookie teams and competitive teams.

A new member joining in freshman year can expect to first join a rookie team and spend a year learning about robotics, both general and VEX specific. During this time, the member will be able to learn lessons about various components of a robot, such as drive trains, lifts, and object manipulators, while working on hands-on projects and participating in competitions with other rookie teams in the club. From the second year and on, the member will join a competitive team and begin working on a large robot with his team members. Because the member has spent time learning about VEX, the new robot can be built by a team with a lot more experience and will have the competitive edge it needs to be successful. On average, a rookie club member spends between 2-4 hours a week for the club, while a competitive team member spends, on average, 8-12 hours a week.

Beginning in 2014, our overall performance improved exponentially, with all four teams qualified for the Northern California VRC State Championships, most having double qualified. In addition, we earned 19 awards and 19 titles. These accomplishments highlight the skills of our members and serve as a testament of what we do and who we are.

Beginning in 2015, our club has largely grown in size, and we expanded beyond four competitive teams to six, with five out of the six teams qualifying for the VRC World Championships.
